Privacy Policy

This policy describes information collected during a visit, why it is used, and the limited circumstances in which another party may receive it. Continued use of Jackson County Criminal History indicates acceptance of these practices.

Data You Give Us Directly

Search Queries

A name or location entered in a search box is transmitted directly to the outside company that operates that tool. The provider processes the query under its own rules. We do not keep a separate log of those search terms.

Messages and Contact Submissions

An email may be retained long enough to answer and manage the correspondence. It is not shared outside our organization unless disclosure is legally required.

Data We Gather Automatically

Ordinary server logs collect basic technical details when a page loads:

  • Page-view dates and times
  • Browser type and version
  • Device and operating-system details
  • Pages viewed and approximate visit duration
  • A referring site, when supplied
  • The device's assigned IP address

Cookies and Analytics

Cookies are small device files used to understand traffic patterns and page use. Analytics providers help combine that activity into site-performance information. A browser can block cookies, though doing so may change how some functions behave.

What We Do With This Data

  • Diagnosing errors and technical failures
  • Operating and improving page performance
  • Forwarding a search to the selected outside provider
  • Measuring which content is useful
  • Displaying advertising that may reflect visitor interests

No Criminal-Record Data on File

Jackson County Criminal History does not host, compile, or sell a database of personal criminal records. It publishes general routing information for the sheriff, district and circuit courts, Michigan State Police and ICHAT, and the Michigan Public Sex Offender Registry. Visitor data is not assembled into a consumer report or a third-party criminal-history profile. This site is not a consumer reporting agency under the Fair Credit Reporting Act.

Third-Party Search Partners

Outside companies operate the search boxes. Information submitted there is governed by the provider's privacy terms, retention policy, and sharing practices rather than this policy. Review those terms before running a query.

Links to Other Websites

Links may lead to sheriff, court, Michigan agency, legal-aid, or outside search sites. Once a visitor follows an external link, the destination's privacy policy controls. Review it before providing personal information.

Advertising providers may use their own systems to measure activity across websites and select ads. We do not control that tracking.

Who Might See Your Data

We do not sell personal data. Limited information can be available to:

  • Analytics providers that measure performance and traffic
  • Search partners processing a submitted query
  • Advertising networks serving page ads
  • A government or law-enforcement body acting under valid legal process

How We Protect Your Data

Reasonable safeguards are used for information under our control. No internet service can guarantee perfect security, so a breach or unauthorized access cannot be ruled out.

Users Under 18

The service is intended for adults, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. A verified request concerning a minor's submitted data will be addressed promptly.

Your Data Rights

Applicable law may provide rights over personal data. Michigan FOIA, MCL 15.231 et seq., governs access to records held by public bodies, not data held by this private site. MCL 28.241a and 28.243 separately limit public criminal-history dissemination by Michigan State Police. Subject to the law that applies, a visitor may:

  • Request correction of inaccurate personal information
  • Ask what personal information is held
  • Seek deletion where the law allows
  • Opt out of eligible processing activities

Updates to This Policy
